Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Friends:
Everyone who doesn't know what they want to do majors in psychology. You need a doctoral degree to do anything and you will be in school forever.
How I responded:
I knew my path would take a long time, but I also knew it would be beneficial to me both personally and professionally. The pursuit of an advanced degree wasn't just about getting into a specific career, it also played an important role in shaping the way I view the world.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Although neither of my parents had completed a four-year degree when I started, they were both very involved and supportive of me during the process. I also did my best to pay attention to advice from faculty/staff and other sources of support.
