Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

"You could make so much more money doing something else!"

  • How I responded:

I realized early on that a job would never just be a job for me. Yes, I want to make enough to be comfortable, but I also need to care about the mission of the organization I work for. Otherwise, I'll be miserable at work. And as unfortunate as it is, you spend a significant amount of your life at work. So I'd rather be a little underpaid but fulfilled in my work than be paid well and miserable. I make some sacrifices, but for the sake of my mental health, it's well worth it.
