My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
At age 12, I wanted to do two things: attend Spelman College & become a lawyer.
2.
I went straight to law school from Spelman, focused on corporate law.
3.
I clerked for a federal appellate judge, and decided to stay in my hometown.
4.
I took a chance on a job posting for a contract manager, and negotiated IT deals.
5.
Someone approached me about managing some complex IT supplier relationships, & I thought "why not?"
6.
That propelled me into 3 other supplier management roles before I began supporting Digital.
7.
I realized that every step on this journey has prepared me for the moment I'm in now.

How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You're a lawyer at a Fortune 500, but you're not in house counsel? What was the point of law school if you aren't going to practice law?
How I responded:
There was a bit of an ego point for me. My family was super supportive, but I had to overcome what I perceived to be judgment from others. At some point, I just had to determine that this is the path I was destined for, and, when I did that, the noise faded and I began to get comfortable in my skin.
