My path in life took a while to figure out

My parents came over from Mexico to the United States.

Then I developed a passion for reading.

Then I was the first to graduate from High School.

Then I was the first to graduate from College.

Then I got into teaching.

Then I continued on to get a graduate degree to be able to impact more children in a positive way.

How I responded:
Believe in yourself. Value who you are and the experiences you bring to any conversation. Know that everything you have been through is unique and thus your voice matters because nobody else on this planet has experienced life the same way you have.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I grew up in Boyle Heights in gang and drug infested projects. I had parents who cared and pushed me to be better than I thought I could be. I also had teachers who believed in me and inspired me to go to college to achieve my full potential.
