Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

Since we were young, we always knew we wanted to work in a creative, design-oriented field.

  • 2.

We went to college for Landscape Architecture, which satisfied our creative tendencies.

  • 3.

We worked through college in the restaurant industry (teaching us "control under pressure").

  • 4.

We got a camera for fun. We put a 'photographer' ad on craigslist & built a portfolio from the gigs.

  • 5.

We got married ('10) & graduated ('11). Job placement for Landscape Architects fell from 90% to 3%.

  • 6.

While applying for jobs, we designed & built our photography company, brand, and website.

  • 7.

We found our passion. As business picked up, we quit applying for Landscape Architecture jobs.

  • 8.

We went full time in 2012. (Couldn't have done it without our Landscape Architecture background).

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Society in general:

You need to graduate college, start your career job, then get married to someone who's done the same. Buy a house with a white picket fence and have a few kids... Complete this and have life figured out by age 25. - The American Dream

  • How I responded:

Success can only be defined by the individual in pursuit of their own; the misconception is that people see success as a specific destination, when really, it's a journey that's rarely paved. So, focus on the journey. Be mindful of your passions. Never stop learning. Build upon. Persevere. The road ahead may not be clear just yet, but as you immerse into environments that inspire & challenge you, the ground beneath you will slowly but surely pave itself towards a foreseeable future.
