My Day to Day

As a media psychologist, my day typically revolves around exploring how TV, film, and social media shape perceptions and influence learned behaviors. Whether I’m analyzing the psychological effects of mass media, conducting research, or engaging in conversations about the intersection of media and behavioral science, my work is all about uncovering how what we consume shapes who we are.

I've taken a lot of twists and turns

    I was born and raised in South Carolina.

  • 2.

    I studied business and marketing at Erskine College, and originally planned to go into pharmaceutical sales.

  • 3.

    A hiring freeze changed my path, leading me to banking and later, publishing, which exposed me to new opportunities.

  • 4.

    I moved to New York, earned my master’s degree in communication from Columbia, and discovered my passion for media psychology.

  • 5.

    While working at CNN on “Black in America,” I realized I wanted to explore the psychology of media and its effects on people.

  • 6.

    I pursued my Ph.D. in psychology, focusing on media and technology’s impact on human behavior and mental health.

  • 7.

    I then moved to Los Angeles, California, where I combined my love for psychology, storytelling, and media to educate and empower communities.

  • 8.

    Now, I use digital media, consulting, and public speaking to help people understand and navigate the ever-changing media landscape.
